Classrooms at Capacity
The Academic Commons filled a need for additional classroom space to accommodate student needs and new teaching techniques. The Academic Commons provides 17 new classrooms and has opened up 12 classrooms for use in Foster Hall as innovative lower and middle school innovative learning space.
New Modes of Instruction and Learning
Differently designed classrooms, labs and maker spaces strike a balance between project-based learning, experiential learning, student collaboration, and traditional classroom instruction.
Increase Math and Science Offerings
Additional and newly designed spaces will expand core math and science offerings and allow additional courses to provide experiences highlighting innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity.
Lower and Middle School Innovative Learning Space
Upper School has vacated Foster Hall and moved into the Academic Commons as of Fall 2018. Foster Hall is being re-purposed and dedicated to offerings for Lower and Middle School students in an innovative setting. Project and experiential-based learning will have “room to grow” through leadership from the school’s teachers and others who specialize in providing creative, new pedagogy.
Continued Academic Leadership
The Academic Commons and the lower and middle school innovative learning space will facilitate Episcopal continuing its academic leadership in the Greater Baton Rouge area and will stand as proof of Episcopal’s dedication to teaching students in ways appropriate for the times.
Attracting and Retaining Excellent Teachers
The new and renovated facilities will be designed to meet the needs of teachers. Both the Academic Commons and the lower and middle school innovative learning space will provide flexibility for visiting teachers and lecturers, and for strategic relationships involving outside specialists throughout the community.
