Bringing innovative learning spaces to Lower School and Middle School
Rationale For the Quest Center
Innovation Center for Lower and Middle School students
Just as the Academic Commons provides space for the needs of Upper School students, the QUEST Center will provide adaptable, flexible spaces for our younger Knights. Project and experiential-based learning will have “room to grow” through leadership from the school’s teachers. Within the Investigation Station, students will have access to microscopes and digital data collection tools. There will be space for long term science experiments, aquaponics and gardening. Technology for today and tomorrow The QUEST Center will feature dedicated space for students to interact with technology. The Spatial Learning Lab will be a space for virtual, augmented, and/or mixed-reality technology. Students will learn the intricacies of coding and robotics within the Digital Media Lab. Such exposure will help young learners develop the deep critical thinking and logical reasoning skills needed to be leaders in tomorrow’s workforce. Reinforce the joy of learning The QUEST Center will support the creative, hands-on learning that is the hallmark of Lower and Middle School. A fully-functioning kitchen will provide opportunities to explore cooking, baking, and other food-safe sciences. Students will be able to explore service-learning, project work, global studies and cultural awareness activities all in one space. The design will be age-appropriate for Lower and Middle School students. New modes of instruction and learning The Center emphasizes a variety of learning strategies and skills – creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication – to complement traditional methods. The methods, materials, and tools employed in the QUEST Center can be enhanced as the need arises in the years and decades to come. |
